About Us
Thank you for interest in the Huron City Bee Company! Do you need bees or want to get rid of them? Either way - we can help. Read on for a full list of our services.
Bee Sales
This is the core of our business. Huron City Bee Company produces nuc boxes (pronounced "Nuke" - short for NUCleus) and sell our bees in early spring. We typically take orders in January or February for delivery in April or May. These times vary from season to season so please send us an email if you would like to receive updates on ordering status.
We breed locally raised "Michigan Mutts" which have proven to be winter hearty. Our queens produce nice patterns of brood early in the spring and have (in our humble opinion) superior genetics over anything coming out of Georgia or Texas.

Bee Removal
Removing bees from walls is another service offered by the Huron City Bee Co. Swarming is a natural tendency of bees. It's their natural method of hive reproduction. However, when these bees find a hole in the wall of your house, instead of a knot hole in a tree, problems can occur. Aside from the obvious problems, bees and their stored honey can create enough pressure on drywall to bow it outward. The bees simply have to be removed. The Huron City Bee Co. will take all the necessary precautions to remove your honeybees safely, for a reasonable fee. Your bees will be removed and the worksite cleaned so reconstruction of the cavity and entrance can begin shortly after our departure.
Yellowjacket Removal
Do we relocate Yellowjackets? In a word, no.
For a small fee, we will come out to perform an assessment of your situation. If they turn out to be Yellowjackets, we'll suggest you call an exterminator. Fortunately, it's easy to save time and money by dertermining the pest problem on your own.
By examining the area below where the bees are entering and exiting, you will likely find dead and discarded bees. Simply speaking, honeybees are fuzzy with hairs on the back (thorax) and abdomen for collecting pollen. Yellowjackets are hard and shiny.
It may be hard to believe, but most stings occur from Yellowjackets and not honeybees. Caution should be used when determing your pest problem as Yellowjackets are generally more aggressive than other bees and are quite territorial. Removal should be done with extreme care, or left to professional exterminators.
Honey Sales
Currently, the Huron City Bee Co. does not sell honey. It seems funny that a Bee Company doesn't sell honey. The truth is that we make a small amount for friends and family each year, and the rest we feed back to the bees to, well... make more bees!
Current Cottage Food Laws prohibit us from producing and selling our honey at farmer's markets and store shelves, as we currently do not have an approved honey house or bottling facility. According to the law, we can only sell honey from out of our front door. Your help is needed!
Contact your lawmakers and request support for Cottage Food Law reform. This is a good law that will help all small beekeepers sell their locally produced honey, in addition to maple syrup producers and makers of jams and jellies. Ask them to support House Bill numbers HB5280 and HB5843.
If you are currently looking for locally produced honey, we suggest a trip to the local Farmer's Market in your area, and purchase from one of the many fine honey producers there.
